After just missing semi-finals in the Bouldering round with a 21st place, this victory in Lead was particularly important for Jakob, as it was his last World Cup before the Paris 2024 Olympics. Reflecting on the competition, he admitted that he didn’t perform at his best, making two crucial mistakes during his climb. Remarkably, he managed to stay on the wall, showcasing once again his determination. With the backing of 3,000 fans who cheered for Jakob despite heavy rain during finals, he pushed through and reached the highpoint, once again proving that mental strength is one of his biggest assets.
“The route was definitely harder than we all thought. Some holds were really bad, some were completely new, and also the friction wasn’t the best. During some moves, I really thought I would fall but somehow managed to hold on.”
Jakob shared the podium with his close friend, Alexander Megos, in second place and Toby Roberts, who also made it into finals in bouldering, in third.
This win was the perfect way to close out a week of packed competitions in Innsbruck. Schubert sums up:
“Massive thanks to the crowd and everyone who made these finals very special. I gained a lot of confidence for the coming weeks of final preparations for the Olympics. Feeling ready to show my best.”
